I don't actually like feet the way you might think.
It's just that I was recently evangelized into the gospel of Minimalist Footwear.
So now I just can't look away - I'm curious what shoes people wear, how they walk, and how that translates into their posture and body mechanics.
TLDR: Imagine how disformed your hands would be if you wore gloves from childbirth.
I'd like to give you three reasons to reconsider footstuff: you get more data about your environment, you prevent injuries, and your shoes are probably disforming your feet.
There is one fuckton of nerve endings in your feet
A lot and even more than you think.
And there's a reason for that.
Our advantage as bipeds is that we could yolotrod for long periods of time (literally exhausting our prey to death lol, savage).
So to prevent owies and broken feet and sad shibas - our feet are designed to collect incredible amounts of data about our territory.
When you transition to minimalist footwear, you might be overwhelmed by the extra sensations.
This extra data is good, your brain is doing a bit processing - it's healthy.
Why foot doin a hurt? And maybe knees too?
When you're less reliant on structural orthopedic support, your body gets better at not doing injuries.
You develop the physical awareness required not to roll your ankles, because of the extra data you're processing. You can no longer lean into the reinforcement that normie shoes provide.
And then your body's like "bro, I can't even do an walk anymore." And so it hellapumps you to get stronk muscles that, you know, literally keep you up and moving.
Internally built supports > external supports.*
This prevents injuries. There's science, but I made a promise not to cite stuff in articles. Sorry.
Your feet are (probably) disformed
Flip your shoe upside down - the opposite foot one. Then lay it over the bottom your foot, from the heel.
Now stretch your toes out. Do your toes go wider than the shoebox allows?
Probably.
Ok, now wash your foot.
Now look up images of foot binding.
You're doing that.
'Nuff said.
And now maybe, just maybe, you'll join me in the gospel of Minimalist Footwear.
