A few years ago, I went through what some call "the dark night of the soul."

I wasn't able to concentrate, work, or play. I lived in (actual) vertigo.

But I didn't give up - and had incredible support along the way.

My survival instinct kept me searching for ever more impactful ways to get out of the hole I was in.

And here are some tricks that I've picked up along the way.

I tape my mouth at night

Yes, like a cloth tape.

Mouths are for eating and talking. Noses are for breathing.

Nose breathing during the night helped me sleep deeper.

It also acts as a ritual, a signal to my body that it's time to shut off and greet my dreams.

I live in red light

No, my house is not a grow-op.

Blue light released by most lightbulbs signals to the body that it's daytime.

This messes with your circadian rhythm.

So now I use red bulbs in my house. I've also got blue light blockers on my Android phone (Twilight) and computer (Iris).

This helps me be in better rhythm with the sun, and provides the right inputs to my body so it stays aligned with the daily cycles my ancestors evolved and thrived in.

I eat mostly animal foods

Every body has a different relationship to foods - each of us needs to find what works for them.

It took me a long time to find my dietary rhythm. Where I landed is mostly animal-based, very low carb.

My vertigo is nearly gone. My "migraine equivalents" are few and far between. And I lost 25 pounds.

I'm almost done "healing." That is, I'm transitioning away from "becoming less ill" towards "developing peak health."

But to get there, I might have to pick up some more weird shit to share with you.
